A few assorted things... & Happy New Year!

TEXT by Celine MacKay | PHOTOGRAPHS by Things have been a little quiet around the PGM blog this week - buried among many good intentions was the realization that I just needed a break. The holidays were a blur - mixed with family visiting from abroad, activities all over the place and a smattering of toddlers running amok, it's been, well, hectic. While still at work these past few days I did manage to sneak a day off, and I plan to do so over the weekend too - more than a year after I'd begun hearing about the Hunger Games I finally dove into the trilogy myself in the hopes of distraction and relaxation. And let me tell you... it worked! I'm hopelessly lost and don't plan on coming up for air until the final 100 pages remaining in book three are safely behind me. As 2011 comes to an end I look forward to next week (hello 2012!) with eagerness - we have big plans, BIG BIG plans over here at Pure Green and I'm so looking forward to keeping you updated.

Things have been a little quiet around the PGM blog this week - buried among many good intentions was the realization that I just needed a break.

Whatever your plans are for New Year's celebrations, I wanted to send you away with a cocktail idea that you can rustle up in a jiffy to ring in the new year. It's simple and classic - apple cider and spiced rum. Delish! (If you're looking for a good organic spiced rum, we like Crusoe by Greenbar Collective.) Jonathan (of the Organic Kitchen) garnishes his with an apple, thinly sliced, and lemon, but you could also rim the edge with cinnamon sugar. Apple cider is such an amazing belly warmer - in from the cold night or gathering around a warm fire, its the multi-purpose crowd pleaser that can be served with or without alcohol. Get a good organic cider, or, you can check out the Homesteading article in our new print issue by Jesse and Melanie and learn about pressing your own apple cider. It's an amazing and inspiring read! (See a sneak peek below).

Also beginning next week you will be able to subscribe to Pure Green digitally as well as in print - stay tuned for updates! We'll also be ringing in the new year with a roundup of the best of Pure Green over the past year here on the blog. You'll also perhaps meet a few new faces around here too... Happy new Year and thank you, once again, for reading Pure Green!
